Czech Republic

Shipowner Eligibility 

The owner of a seagoing vessel shall be an incorporated entity or natural person who demonstrates its legal claim to the seagoing vessel's ownership. However, every seagoing vessel registered in the Maritime Register of the Czech Republic has to be operated by an operator who is a natural person having permanent residence in the Czech Republic or an incorporated entity established in the Czech Republic and who:
Operates such seagoing vessel under his name and is at the same time the owner of such seagoing vessel, or
Is authorised by the owner of seagoing vessel to operate the vessel under his own name and on his own responsibility

Registration and Documentation

Registration documents should be presented by the owner to the Navigation and Waterways Department of the Ministry of Transport and Communications in Prague and are as follows:
Application document that shall contain:
Business name, registered office, legal form and identification number of incorporated entity, or name, permanent residence, or business name and personal identification number of a natural person who is the owner of the vessel,
Business name, registered office, legal form and identification number of incorporated entity, or name, permanent residence, or business name and personal identification number of a natural person who is the operator of the vessel,
Basic technical particulars of the vessel.
Extract from the Register of Companies, if already entered incorporated entities are involved, or document demonstrating the establishment of the involved incorporated entities,
Verified document certifying the ownership of the seagoing vessel,
Documents certifying technical seaworthiness of the vessel issued by authorized classification society (Certificate of Class and relevant statutory certificates),
Document certifying legal relation of the operator to this vessel,
Extract from the Penal Register of a natural person, if a natural person is the operator, or extract from the Penal Register of all members of the statutory body, if an incorporated entity is the operator; the extract from the Penal Register shall be no more than six months old,
Document demonstrating that the operator of the vessel has permanent residence or registered office in the Czech Republic,
Certificate of cancellation of former registry with statement on a mortgage lien or on retention right laid on the vessel,
Verified duplicate of a document on a mortgage lien or on retention right laid on the vessel, if established, or on other facts limiting the handling ofthe vessel,
Document certifying the IMO identification number or identification number of the seagoing yacht's hull assigned by the manufacturer or by the classification society - member of IACS,
Document on the payment of the administrative charge.
Although originals of the above documents are required, faxes will be temporarily accepted if the sender undertakes to deliver the originals within three working days. All documents must be notarised or legalized.
When all of the above documentation is provided and the appropriate registration fees have been paid, permanent Certificates of Registry without expiration are issued to owners.

Bareboat Charter Registration

Bareboat charter registrations into or out of the Czech Maritime Register are permitted.

Vessel and Yacht Eligibility & Survey Requirements

There are no requirements as to a vessel's age. At the time of initial registration in the Czech Republic, a vessel must be classed with one of the following classification societies:
- Bureau Veritas
- Det Norske Veritas
- Germanischer Lloyd
- Lloyd's Register of Shipping
- Polski Rejestr Statków
- Maritime (Russian) Register of Shipping
- Croatian Register of Shipping

Crewing

Under the provisions of Act No. 61/2000 Col., to employ foreigners or stateless persons as crewmembers of the Czech registered vessels shall not be subject to a residence permit on the territory of the CR and employment permit according to special legislation. The Master of a vessel flying the Czech flag must be a Czech citizen.
